Morphe Filter Effect Soft Focus Foundation

After hearing/watching all the reviews on this, I was extremely curious and mildly excited about trying it out, so let's talk about the new Morphe foundation. I finally had the chance to try it out yesterday and I also filmed a wear test on it (will be linked in this post).

To start with, lets take a look at the claims and the shade range:

  • Medium Coverage

  • Natural Finish

  • Buildable

  • Blurs imperfections

  • Sweat proof

  • Transfer proof

  • Water proof

  • Oil free - Paraben free - Fragrance free

  • Available in 40 different shades with varied undertones

Priced at AU$30

Available at MECCA stores in Australia

Application suggestion: Foundation brush

My shade: Medium 13 - Medium with neutral undertones

The consistency of the foundation is rich and creamy with a semi runny formula, So, I started with fresh skin, with just my daily skincare underneath(Fenty Skin to be precise) and applied the foundation as per suggested, with a brush. I loved the consistency of the foundation, it doesn't dry out and gives you a lot of time to work it in your skin. I took two pumps and that was more than enough to give me a nice layer of coverage. It blends effortlessly and smoothens in the process. It covered all my redness and evened out my skin tone. My freckles did peek through a little bit but that is pretty normal for me with most of my foundations. As per the claims, it was a natural comfortable finish with medium coverage. I did go in with a second layer to see how it would build up and while it did build nicely, I would probably just stick to one layer. With the second layer, I felt it looked a little heavy and slightly cakey as the day progressed.

After the application, I applied a very light layer of Maybelline Instant age rewind concealer and lightly powdered just my T-Zone. My blush and bronzer went on without a glitch, there was no patchiness or muddying anywhere and I was very happy with how fresh my face looked. It wore pretty well for the rest of the day and I didn't notice much of transferring anywhere, granted I wasn't having a very active day. I did, however, notice oils peeking through as the day went on. While it was still comfortable on my skin, I was conscious of how oily my face was getting and I noticed it was getting heavier and cakier around my nose and mouth area.

The best way to wear this foundation in my opinion is to only wear a single layer, and also set it with a setting spray and maybe touching it up mid-day through. As far as the claims go for transfer proof, it most certainly transferred when I tried to blot away the excess oils after 8.5hours of wear but it did not move it at all. It did touch up well once I powdered it down and it felt like it renewed the foundation for a few more hours of wear.

To sum up, it does stand its claims on being medium coverage, natural finish, buildable and blurs imperfections (this would be the dimethicon as one of the major ingredients in the formula). As for the rest of the claims, sweat proof, waterproof, and transfer proof, I cannot say much about the sweat proof and waterproof claims as I was not able to test these, but certainly not transfer proof as mentioned earlier.

Overall, I see this foundation making its way in my daily rotation of foundations and most certainly see it being one of the regular ones I wear. As of now, it is only available at MECCA, and I used the shade finder tool to get my match, and I am very happy with shade match.
